Peter Mathis’ Sonoma County Grenache is the culmination of 16 years of experience and planning. 2004 was Peter’s inaugural release. Peter began his career in the wine industry in 1990 working harvest at Ravenswood. He quickly made himself indispensable and is now the head winemaker at Ravenswood. Peter purchased his vineyard land in 1997, and during his free moments, he spent the next two winters clearing it. In 1999, he planted the hillside to Grenache, Carignane, Petite Sirah, and Allicante Bouche. Peter believes wine should tell a story. His passion for purity of fruit and the influence of the Southern Rhone’s delicate and superbly crafted wines have marked Peter’s every move in making his wine. Carefully selected clones and a firm belief that this style of wine should not be overtly-oaked begin to define Peter’s winemaking.
