Statewide - Elizabeth Spencer, established in 1998, is a husband-wife
winemaking partnership based in Rutherford, Napa Valley. With their strong
ongoing alliances with premiere grape growers, Elizabeth Pressler and Spencer
Graham have consistently secured fruit from the same vineyards in Napa Valley,
Sonoma Coast and Mendocino County since the winery’s inception. Working closely
with growers, they have established mutual high standards in grape farming
practices.
Elizabeth Spencer holds a firm belief is that wine is made
in the vineyard and they uphold the philosophy of “meticulous minimalism” or
that “less is more” when making superior wine. Elizabeth Spencer wines are
vinified in small individual lots using classical hands-on methods. The results
are delicious, balanced and approachable wines with great purity of flavor.
Elizabeth Spencer produces seven wines for distribution to
restaurants and retail shops. Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery’s
flagship wine, was first made in 1998. It is a blend of five vineyards with
varying aspects represented from the mountains, to gentle slopes and the valley
floor. It is blended to a “house” style each year and typically has about 5 to
7% Merlot and/or Cabernet Franc. Sauvignon Blanc from Mendocino County is
Elizabeth Spencer’s first organically grown and produced wine with the official
certification noted on the back label. Three notable wines are made from cool
climate Sonoma Coast – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah. The most recent
additions to the portfolio are Grenache and Chenin Blanc from Mendocino County.
